Choosing & sizing
What size ice cleats do I need?

Ice cleat sizing is based on your shoe size, and most Action Traction models come in Medium, Large and X-Large (the Elite Hex also offers Small). As a general guide: Medium fits about men's 7–10.5 / women's 5–8, Large fits men's 11–12.5 / women's 8.5–11, and X-Large fits men's 13+. Exact ranges vary slightly by model, so check the sizing chart on each product page before ordering. The Quick Cleats and Neck Gaiter are one-size-fits-most.

What's the difference between Quick, Original, Slip-On, Hiking, Pro and Elite Hex?

They step up in grip and coverage as your conditions get tougher:

  • Quick Cleats — lightest, for casual walking and everyday slip protection.
  • Original — full-foot coverage with replaceable spikes; the popular all-rounder.
  • Slip-On — heel-and-forefoot grip for a natural stride on mixed surfaces.
  • Hiking Crampons — aggressive cleats for trails, jogging and rougher terrain.
  • Pro — multi-prong cleats on stainless steel chains for serious traction.
  • Elite Hex — 34 replaceable steel cleats on a full-foot plate for the harshest ice.

Still deciding? Our buying guide walks through it by use case.

Which cleats are best for walking the dog or everyday errands?

For sidewalks, driveways, dog walks and getting to the car, the Quick Cleats or Original Ice Cleats are ideal — lightweight, easy on and off, and comfortable for everyday use. Browse the full Everyday Cleats collection.

Which cleats are best for work, hunting or ice fishing?

For demanding outdoor work and the slickest conditions, step up to the Elite Hex or Pro Cleats — both deliver maximum bite and stand up to heavy, repeated use. See the Extreme Cleats collection.

Fit & use
Can I wear ice cleats with any shoes or boots?

Yes — Action Traction cleats are designed to stretch over virtually any shoes, boots or athletic footwear. They slip over the toe, then the heel strap stretches over the back of your shoe. (High heels are the one exception.) Just match the cleat size to your shoe size using the chart on each product page.

How do I put them on?

Position the cleat over the toe of your shoe or boot first, then hold the rear heel strap and stretch it over the back of your shoe. Adjust so the cleats sit under your forefoot and heel. Most models go on in well under a minute once you've done it once.

What surfaces do they work on?

Action Traction cleats grip ice, packed snow, frozen trails, mud, rock and pavement. They're built for outdoor winter surfaces. They are not intended for indoor use and won't work well on smooth, hard surfaces like polished tile, smooth stone or metal.

Will ice cleats damage my floors?

Yes, if you wear them indoors — the exposed steel cleats can scratch hard floors and catch on carpet. Always take them off before going inside. They're made for outdoor traction, not indoor wear.

Care & replacement
Can I replace the spikes when they wear down?

On replaceable-spike models, yes. Rather than buying new cleats, you can swap worn spikes using Replacement Ice Cleats (8pc) for the Original-style cleats, or Elite Hex Extra Cleats (8pk) for the Elite Hex. This extends the life of your gear season after season. (The Hiking Crampons and Slip-On use fixed, non-replaceable cleats.)

How do I store and care for my cleats?

Most models roll or fold up small enough to keep in a bag, glovebox or work locker. Let them dry before storing to prevent rust on the steel cleats, and check the spikes periodically — replace them when they're worn for consistent grip.

ActionTech headwear
How is the 5-in-1 balaclava worn five ways?

The 5-in-1 Fleece Balaclava converts into a full balaclava, a hood, a facemask, a double-layered scarf, or even a drawstring travel bag. An adjustable toggle dials in the fit and seals out wind and rain. It's wind- and waterproof, double-layered anti-pill fleece, and machine washable.

Is the headwear machine washable?

Yes. Both the balaclava and the fleece neck gaiter are 100% anti-pill polyester fleece and machine washable — simple to care for after a day outside.
